In less than 9 weeks Melissa has made phenomenal progress and her progress and results so far are proof if you are committed, have the right mindset and but in 100% effort then you can really change your life.

Not only losing 13.5kg in 8 weeks, Melissa also dropped 16cm from her waist and 6cm from her hips. read her full story below.

  1. Why Did You Join the BBG Programme?

I saw one of Ashley’s videos pop up on my Facebook feed and being a technological dinosaur, I was a tad sceptical as to whether Ashley and the BBG studio were real!

But so much of what he said in the video resounded with me that I clicked on the link and then spoke to Ashley on Facetime.

I reached a crunch point with my weight where I knew I wanted to take action.

Having 2 children with a short age gap, I had half heartedly gone back to the gym while on maternity leave but balancing work and family life upon the end of my maternity leave proved too much and my gym attendance tailed off.

At the beginning of 2019 I hit the scales and to my horror was the heaviest I had ever been and was feeling pretty down about my weight and lack of fitness.

My dress sizes had been slowly going up and unhappily relenting into buying new and bigger clothes in sizes I didn’t like.

I was also in a habitual cycle of emotional eating and I wanted to make a change. I then joined BBG in February 2019 and started immediately on the February nutritional challenge.  

  1. How did you feel before you started?

I knew I had to reach the right frame of mind on my own so that I could be focused and ready to make a change that would last.

So I had a family holiday in January and knew that upon my return, I was going to become the fitter, healthier and happier version of myself that had got a bit lost for a few years in family life and putting others before me.

I was a tad nervous – I had been fit and sporty throughout school, uni and in my twenties but my thirties had seen my weight rocket and my fitness levels decline massively!

So I knew getting back to it would mean hard grafting on many levels.

But as soon as I did my first class I knew that the fitness environment at the studio was friendly and non-judgy and the perfect place for me to change my ways.

  1. What were your goals?

My main goal was to shift some weight and become comfortable in my own skin again.

I was tired of dressing to cover up my ‘mum tum’ instead of enjoying fashion which I had done in the past.

And i needed to change my previous yoyo dieting mindset – we always joke in my family that I’m the Kerry Katona of dieting…

I’ve been a size 10 and a size 18-20 (which I was before I started at BBG) and everything in-between! I’m either ‘on a diet’ or ‘off a diet’ and one of my main goals was (and is) to find some kind of happy medium and become more knowledgeable about food.  

  1. How have you been supported?

The trainers are fantastic and tailor each workout for each member.

I like to push myself in the sessions and they really help me to do that, as well as helping me to strengthen areas which need some help (like my core which certainly needs work!).

The nutrition challenges are great – I definitely need accountability and being part of a plan with other members definitely gives me that and makes me feel like I’m in a team – all striving for the same thing which is great.

There’s something very lonely about doing a workout in a standard gym and weighing in at a Weight Watchers class (I’ve done this route too in the past) and the classes at BBG give me a sense of camaraderie and teamwork that I need to keep going.

I also enjoy Ashley’s online tutorials – I’m still in awe at how much sugar there is in Mini Eggs!

  1. How are the sessions?

The sessions are great – I like to mix my two sessions a week up with an SBD (squat, bench, deadlift) session every two weeks.

I didn’t realise how much fun weightlifting can be but there’s a real sense of achievement when you hoik up that deadlift bar!

The trainers are also great at giving variety in all of their sessions which keeps things interesting.

I’ve been to classes at other gyms before where I knew what to expect every session – even the tracks were the same and that can get pretty boring.

There’s no danger of that at BBG as the music and content of the classes are always different.

  1. You’ve had brilliant results so far, how does that make you feel?

I’ve lost 13.4 kgs in 3 months and I’m over the moon with how much better I feel. When I pick up a 12kg kettlebell in the studio I can’t believe I used to drag that extra weight around!

There is still got a long way to go and I know that my weight loss will slow up so I’m trying to mentally prepare for that and not be disappointed when it doesn’t come off as quickly.

I’m almost half way to my target weight which I’m delighted about.

My fitness levels have improved and my wobbly core is starting to get stronger. I also feel that I’m more knowledgeable about food which was a big deal for me – I used to have so many bad habits and eliminating those out of my daily routine has helped enormously with my weight loss.  

  1. Has your friends/colleagues partner noticed the changes? How does that make you feel?

Friends and family have definitely noticed not only the change in my physical appearance through gaining muscle and losing weight but also in my outlook.

I have a spring in my step now and genuinely look forward to the classes at the studio.

Whereas before I joined BBG I was lethargic and down about my weight which then seeped into other areas of my life.

I feel a real sense of achievement and I’m so much more positive now.

I’m also looking forward to getting closer to my goal weight and appearance and to shopping for clothes that I wouldn’t have dreamed of buying earlier on in the year!  

  1. What would you say to someone thinking of joining?

If you want to make a change to your weight and/or fitness then definitely give BBG a whirl – what’s the worst that could happen?

The studio is such a welcoming environment – the trainers and the other members are genuinely lovely and want everyone to do well.

Sessions are small (max 5 people) so that the trainer can give everyone individual attention and there’s a real team spirit.

It doesn’t matter how unfit or out of shape you are (and believe me, I was both a few months ago and still have a long way to go!), the classes are accessible to all with no judgement as to what you can and can’t manage.

The food education and nutrition challenges are there if you want to take part in those too and make a 360 degree life change.

I would highly recommend BBG!
